Carbon Monoxide Sensors: Uncovering In-Car CO Air Pollution
Nowadays, for car owners, the comfort of mobile living is admired by more and more people. With the rapid growth in the number of car owners, in-car air quality has started to attract attention.
In-car air pollution poses a new threat to the health of car owners, and this threat mainly comes from carbon monoxide. A report from the Indoor Air Monitoring Center of the China Decoration Association shows that harmful substances in in-car air mainly include: formaldehyde from materials such as car seats, cushions and roof decorations; benzene from in-car adhesives; carbon monoxide and gasoline fumes produced by engines; as well as amines and nicotine generated by vehicle air conditioning evaporators that have not been cleaned and maintained for a long time. According to experts, the more luxuriously decorated a car is, the more prone it is to pollution. Statistics show that 65% of drivers often experience dizziness, drowsiness, coughing, and sometimes even feelings of depression and irritability. In fact, all these are caused by carbon monoxide.
Due to its invisibility, most carbon monoxide poisoning cases are misdiagnosed by doctors as influenza because of no obvious symptoms. That is why carbon monoxide is known as the "silent killer".
Although there are more than a hundred types of sensors currently used in automobiles, for vehicle manufacturers, these sensors are mainly applied to powertrain systems, vehicle control systems, body control systems, communication systems, **systems, and performance-enhancing systems. However, almost all of them have neglected the control of the "silent killer"—carbon monoxide.
According to relevant experts, long-term exposure to in-car air pollution will put drivers and passengers in a sub-health state. In-car air pollution should arouse great attention from automobile manufacturers.
