frequently. According to official statistics, gas accidents cause economic losses amounting to billions of yuan every year. As temperatures drop, residents enter the peak period of gas consumption, and such gas‑related accidents become more likely to happen. Winter has always been a high‑incidence season for indoor gas‑safety risks. With the recent drop in temperature, safe gas usage has become one of the topics of public concern.
Overall Situation
According to statistics, in December 2020, Boran Network recorded a total of 49 domestic gas accidents, causing 9 deaths and 47 injuries.
Provincial Distribution of Gas Accidents
Gas‑related accidents took place in 29 provincial‑level administrative regions across China in 2020. Jiangsu Province reported the largest number of gas accidents, with 51 cases for the whole year, equivalent to roughly one accident per week on average.
Five provinces recorded more than 30 gas accidents, namely Jiangsu, Guangdong, Hebei, Henan and Shandong.
In accordance with the requirements of Technical Specification for Urban Gas Alarm and Control System (CJJ/T146‑2011), carbon monoxide sensors shall be inspected at regular intervals (every three years).
